I think I know the answer, but just checking. I bought a house with an old hotpoint fridge in the basement. I plugged it in a couple days ago, it worked for a few days, and now it doesn't. All the lights are on, the compressor is burning hot to the touch. I don't know much about appliances, but i bypassed something that kept clicking on and off, and the house breaker blew. From reading this forum, it turns out I bypassed the guardette. The sticker says it is a manual defrost, so I gather the compressor is shot. Anything else it could be?

Let's ASSume it is the compressor. If it wasn't bad before you shorted the start relay, it likely is now.

If it was me I would get an All in One hard start and connect it to the compressor. It might just start working. Or yau might be out 20 bucks. But how much does it cost to get a dude out to tell you the same thing?
