can I use thin twin 220 volt 120 volt apartment?

I think I just made a very stupid purchase, and would appreciate hearing from someone who knows something about these things. I just bought a used whirlpool thin twin stackable washer dryer, but apparantly it has a 220 volt plug, and standard house wiring (Anaheim CA) is 120 volt. How can I make this work? Thanks

Standard electric dryer wiring is for 240 volts, even in California.

What you are saying is that you do not have laundry provisions in the location. Most any electrician can provide you a 240 volt circuit from your existing breaker box.

.. If you have a 240v Electric Range outlet (not being used).. that could  possibly be converted /or/ a Range cord to the Washer / Dryer .. and re-size the Fuses / Breaker in the Breaker Box.

What you have purchased is what we down here in the deep south affectionately call a skinny mini.
A skinny mini will have need for a drain and water hoses too. Plus a 30 amp receptacle and a vent pipe.

Thanks for the helpful responses. I now realize that if you are a renter, and set up for a gas dryer, DUH, you buy a gas dryer. As you guys have said, an electrician could easily set me up to use an electric dryer, but not without owner aproval. Believe me, the owner is not interested in having any work done to the place. So, I'll be selling my whirlpool electric stackable. Hopefully these posts will help someone else searching for info like this.
