Upright Washer Odor

I have an upright washer that is relatively new (just over 1 year).  Lately, after doing a load of wash, if I don't run another, the washer begins to stink.  I make sure that I run HOT water often.  I have to open the front panel and open the front drain to let water out.  In a ice cream bucket, I probably get 1-2 inches of very gross smelling water.  Is there something with the pump or could it be as easy as something as the discard hose too far or too shallow?

Is the drain hose of normal length and hung at least 38" from the floor?  Not taped off?

I am not familiar with what the normal length of a hose on a unit like this, so I am assuming that it is since it was installed when the until was delivered.  But I wonder if it has been pushed too far down into the drain?

Hose was too long.  Pulled it out about 12 inches and ran laundry.  Much less water and smell is going away (will need a few more cycles I think).
