maytag neptune super stack electric
« on: November 24, 2008, 06:56:56 PM »
Hello,

Just bought a used 2006 Neptune stacker. The lady said it works great and she has never had a problem. However, when I start the washer it clicks loud and the makes a weird grinding noise. (like a belt is loose)It doesn't seem normal? But, I have never had a front loader that reverses back and forth.  Question: Is this noise normal? Everything else seems to work fine. Thanks

Model mue2000ayw

Ok, sorry for the delay.

Dryer serial # 11917964 um

model # mue2000ayw

washer serial # 10201463um

model # mhw2000aww

(People don't sell 2 year old machines unless there is a problem)

I don't know about that. She just lost her home and moved to a rental (a nice townhome) that has a nice side by side w&d with no room for a stackable.

Does this run on a belt drive? Thanks again for your time.

The manual for the Stack Neptune is on this website in the manuals section if you want to know how the machine works. Your description leads me to  assume the  motor will need to be replaced, as it will moan, grind and click when it is in the  process of failing. If you are wondering, I am a career Maytag employee, (or was till they dissolved in 2006) so I know all the issues with the Neptune. I'm on my second Neptune machine at home as well.

Your machine was made in June 1998, so it is way more than 2 years old, no matter now nice this person seems.

The motor kit for your model comes with complete instructions, so you don't even need the aforementioned manual unless you  want to read all the other stuff.  Part you  want is 12002039. Go ahead and replace the belt, as no doubt it has never been done. 12001788

Part # 12002039 Motor - Drve, AP4010145

Part # 12001788 Kit, Belt & Isolator, AP4009041

Repair-man,

Thank you again, you appear to be very knowledgable about people's motives as well! I really thought you were off base. But, I confirmed with a Maytag rep you are correct on the age. Which means you are probably correct in your statement "(People don't sell 2 year old machines unless there is a problem)" Good call. Thanks again.

Side note: In trying to find out if the machine had any warranty I called Sears. The only way they can tell is by your phone number. I gave the number of the former owner and to my suprise there is no warranty. JK . It turns out that on Nov 26th they bought a brand new LG. Ain't that about a bitch. People uh!

Hey Repair-man,

One more quick question. Should any water remain in the unit when the wash has been complete. Thanks

There ought not be any water in the bottom when the clothes are done. Since the unit is 12 years old the belt may be bad which is pretty easy to fix. No tools needed. You have to lean that monster over to put it on. If the belt looks decent and the pump bearing turns fine I would say the thrust washer may be bad. Repairman has a fairly simple method for replacing that.

I believe you are thinking about a different type of washer JW.
This is a Maytag Neptune front load washer. The drive belt is located in the back of the washer.

You should not be able to see any water in the tub.
If you spin the tub around by hand you may hear the sound of water, but that is normal.

Yep I was thinking about a different machine. I don't have a clue about this one. Looks pretty don't it?

Anybody have the bearing part number? How difficult is a bearing to install? Anybody interested in seeing a 20 second video of problem? Thanks

Are you interested in some ocean-front property in Arizona?

I'm not a C.S.I., but I can tell the difference between a new machine and an old one. New machines do not suffer bearing failure. Period.

The machine was made in June 1998. We already established that fact. You cannot put lipstick on a pig, nor can you replace just the bearing. A new outer tub is over $400.  Deal with it.

Wow! What is an outer tub? Is it related to the bearing? Thanks
