Circuit City Bankrupt!

Circuit City Files for Bankruptcy

Nov. 11, 2008. Circuit City Stores Inc. filed for bankruptcy protection today. Under Chapter 11 protection, the electronics retailer can keep operating while it develops a reorganization plan. Its Canadian operations also filed for similar protection. The company also said it cut 700 more jobs at its Richmond, VA, U.S., headquarters, after announcing recently that it would close 20% of its stores and lay off thousands of workers. Circuit City also was granted interim approval to abandon 150 leases at locations where it no longer operates stores, which it said costs $40 million annually.

I never thought I would say something like this, but frankly, I am happy to see this particular company go under. They put a lot of mom and pop appliance companies out of business back in the early 90's, and were one of the first big-box outlets for appliances. They soon found out that they bit off more than they could chew and dropped appliances for electronics instead. Too little, too late..damage done

::)After seeing their warranty repair center they had here on Long Island it was clear to me that they spent money foolishly and stupidly at the same time.
The office had the latest state of the art everything with an assistant for everyone, yet the shop was the biggest joke of the century.
Example: Plywood set atop of saw horses for work bench to service window and wall units. Garden hoses leaking stretched across floors to service washers and dishwashers, not to mention extension cords laying in puddles.
Jury rigging electric ranges in the most horrible way.
And when asked if I could help, I said I could but to my disbelief they told me my credit score was too low to work for them.  ???

There is a Sears call center right near here, I busted my ass trying to learn how to use a PC with the hopes of getting a cushy job there one day, when I went and applied I was turned down because I couldn't sell add ons. They will probably be next. :tickedoff:

Let's not go with those clowns. During an interview the service manager ask me for help. Turns out he came from the TV/Audio service department and had no clue about appliances.
Waited three weeks to hear only to be called in for another interview . Told I was overqualified.  :o

A cushy job...  at Sears?

JW, I could have saved you the trouble. I still have the T-shirts from the last time :)

The only good thing that ever came from that job was the logo you see as my avatar. A Sears customer of mine drew that for me while I was fixing his washer in 1975.

California??!!

There ain't no fruit flies on me   8)

I'm from the great State of Texas. We have more men & women serving in the Army,Navy,  Air Force and Marine Corps than any other state. Mess with us and you'll get whupped by the best :)

Ya'll don't make fun of my flashlight...back in the 70's they looked and felt  like a hammer. So did the cell phones, come to think of it.
