Repair Manual for Amana Commercial Washer
« on: November 17, 2008, 12:56:19 PM »
Can you tell me where i can get a free repair manual for a Amana Commercial Quality Washer Model # LWA50AW. I see the Amana top loads listed but model # LWA50AW is not listed. We had a broken belt, then replaced it. Now it will not drain water out of tub. Motor gets very hot and clicks off.

Model LWA50AW

We did look in the pump. Nothing looks blocked. It will pump the water out. It's just that the motor locks up and gets very hot. I was thinking my husband has belt on wrong, but thanks to you I have down loaded the repair manuel and it seems to be on right.  It's like it won't go counter clockwise with out binding up. It barely starts to spin and drain then it shuts off. From what I read it sounds like belt is to tight??? Any clues.
Thank you.
Cindy
PS everything was working fine until we replaced the belt.

Yes we understand how to put the water pump back on. Goes through all cycles now, but when it gets to the part that it starts to spin and pump water out, it will just barely get going and the safty breaker goes off and shuts everything down. Its like something is restricting the belt from going counter clockwise? Any suggestions.
Thank you
Cindy

I put that there to show you the correct belt routing.

Is there a line of grease about 12" from the floor all around the inside of the cabinet?
Was the machine spinning noisily before the belt broke?

Not that I have seen. I have not seen any grease. May have been when husband changed the belt? Did the belt need greased?

I just spoke to my husband. He said no there was no grease around the cabinet. That the bearings are ok. It was not noisy before the belt broke.

The belt could have broken for 2 reasons...
1. It was worn out (old)
2. Something is binding the center (transmission pulley)

Your husband can remove the belt and try turning the  center pulley by hand to seee if it is bound up. If so, the bearing is a possiblility, as well as something caught between the spin basket and the outer tub.

Other than that, it is easy to get the belt on wrong when replacing it for the first time...we all have done it. If you get grease on that belt, you will ruin it. Amana belts are specifically designed to sl;ip a bit during the spin cyle.

They belt broke because I was washing a old blanket that decenerated in washing machine. It binded it up. He can freeley turn center pulley clockwise easly but going counter clockwise it barely makes a half a turn and locks up.  Should it turn both ways? If something is caught between spin basket and outer tub how do we check that or clean it out? That could be the problem as we were picking chunks of the blanket out of the washer machine.

If something is between inner basket and outer. What is the easiest way to check this. Is it complicated?  Also on the belt. My husband actually went down to Napa to get a belt of the same length. Would there be a big difference in the actual belt and the one he got. They are the same length?

You need to get the amana belt. Those belts are made of special material. A regular belt will suffer.

You must have the Amana belt, as 'El Sublimo' said. A 3rd party belt will not allow the pulley to slip when the tub is full of water, causing an agressive spin and water slung over the tub top.

To get to the tub, raise the main top and  pop off the 6 tabs around the edge of the tub cover. It's easier if yu press down on the cover while unsnapping each tab. Then you can peer all around the circumference of the tub to look for missing bankie shreds.

So we have to unscrew the top of the washer to get the top off. Correct? I wish my husband could actually talk to ya.  We discussed getting to the tub last night. He says it complicated? So it really does make a difference if it is not a amana belt? If the belt he is using does not slip a little would this be causing all our problems? Sorry for all the questions. We do not live anywhere close to a repair place and for the price to have someone drive all the way out to our house we could probably buy a new one.
