kitchenaid dishwasher just quits

We have just started having this problem. After it starts it will stop then restart and do this through all its cycles. It leaves water in the end that will not drain. I checked the electrical out let and it is ok. The front panel is lit the whole time therefore I don't think it is the power.Would appreciate any help before I retire it. It has served us well for about 8 yrs.

This model basically has one moving part, the motor/pump assy, shown below. It sounds by your description that the motor internal overload is cutting out, causing the stopping and starting. The entire new assembly simply drops in from the inside, and will make the dishwasher like new once again. The choice between spending $200 and $500 on a new dishwasher is yours.
