FRIG. STOPPED WORKING
« on: November 12, 2008, 11:21:43 PM »
yesterday, we noticed the topfreezer was not keeping the meat frozzen anymore, and we removed everything from the freezer, and I cleaned and vacumed the bottom coils, and blewout all the dust in the bottom of the refrigerator. we plugged it back in, and now nothing is cooling, in the refrigerator,I pulled the back cover and plugged it in. it looks like the fans are working proper, in the freezer and the one by the compressor. but the compressor tank is hot and the fan does not stop running. could this be a relay or is there a way to check something else??? can I please get some help here, thanks I appreciate the help.

Check your relay. Remove it from the compressor and give it a shake. If it makes a salt shaker type sound it is bad. if it makes no sound it is bad. If you can feel the floating switch knocking about in there(thunka thunka) then it is probably ok.

If you have a multimeter, set it for ohms. Place each lead (black, redinto the "holes" on the relay.
Turn it upside down. It should go from infinity to zero.

thanks for the speedy replies.. well I finally got my start relay, I ordered, I checked it by shaking it and I HEAR NOTHING. does that mean its bad from the dealer, because I installed it and the frig. still does not get cold.. is there another way to check these relays or could I by pass the relay to check and see if the compressor is bad.

I keep a Supco 3in1 wired with a line cord for quick diagnosis.
I also use an "Annie"

"Annie" is Hermetic Analyzer. The little black box is a capacitor.
Invest in a Supco URCO-410 combination relay/capacitor/overload.  :)
