Maytag Neptune will not shut off.
« on: October 30, 2007, 07:53:27 AM »
MAH4000 AWW   MAH1
Washer will not stop doing the back and forth tumble before the door unlocks. Since it does not stop this motion it must be manually stopped to stop the washer.
It does go through the entire wash/rinse/spin cylcles just wont shut off.
What can I check? could it be a bad motor control board or control board? If so what can I check to diagnose the problem.

Also the pump makes a horrible vibration noise while it drains. Could this add or cause the problem I am having?

Thanks very much for your time

Rob

I don't see how the motor control board would cause this. I have only had this happen one time on a neptune. Wish I could tell you what to check on this.

After checking for bad connections and looking the board over for burnt out parts I went out to my truck and got a new control board.

Plugged in the new control board and it was fixed.

I don't see how it would cause the problem of it not truning off at the end of the cycle. Just another pump with bad bearings. I have changed many noise neptune water pumps.

Have you check out the neptune service manual

Here is the control board and pump for your washer.

Thank you,
AJ

Thanks AJ for the quick reply.

Just to be clear you did have a similar problem and with replacing the control board, it fixed the problem? Am I correct?

Thanks again,

Rob

Might need to change the wax motor also if the board is burned-right??

Otherwise will it not just repeat this process till the wax motor is changed?--that is if you haven't already changed it since you have had the washer.

Just my thoughts.

If the R-11 Resistor is burnt out then you need to change the wax motor too.

I don't think you will find that the R-11 resistor is burnt out on this washer.
If it was the washer would no longer spin.

Mine wouldn't stop tumbling at the end of the cycle just flipping back and forth . It also wouldn't unlock the door. The guy replaced only the board(behind control panel). It only worked for a while then the same thing. That time he changed the board and the wax motor. Havent had a problem since and that has been a few years.

That was what I was basing my opinion on. My warranty was out but Maytag paid for both service calls and all parts. Then they gave me a 6 month extra warranty.

sparky823,

Based on the experience you had with your washer it sounds like it would be a good idea to change the wax motor too.

The wax motor is less then $10 and that is some darn cheap insurance.  O0

The tech changed it the second time he replaced the board. He said the first time he did the board he didn't  know he should change the wax motor too, although this was a Maytag Store Tech doing the servicing.

Do you think I should change it now even though he did it about 5 years ago when he changed the board? I havent had any problems since then, but I shouldn;t say that cause then something will happen.

I just hope the bearings last for several more years.

Do you know if he put in the wax motor with the black plunger on the end of it?

The old wax motors that went bad were all one color. The new replacement wax motors have a black plunger on the end.
