magic chef washer lazy spin
« on: January 27, 2009, 03:50:54 PM »
Washer works fine except in spin mode. You have to manually start spin by hand. After that works fine until washer is unused for a few days. I noticed a thrust washer(on transmission diagram for this washer). Could this be sorce of problem? Can this part be obtained? Is there a repair manual hopefully on line that would cover replacement of this part. THANKS

Model w20fn2

Thanks for the online manual however after downloading it I find it is not the right one. My washer is a magic chef model w20fn2(see parts diagram). Hopefully you can still point me to a service manual for that model
THANKS AGAIN

This is not the same as the Performa series, which was a Herrin product also. This is the old solenoid-release brake machine made in 1988.

Yours is the old Norge design as shown HERE. It is spun by a simple belt on bottom, plus a  spring (#34) pushing tension against the motor. I would first try a new belt.

Open the front panel and inspect the motor carriage assembly to be sure it still floats freely so the belt will adjust.

You our correct this is my washer. Have checked belt it is fine. Also moter floats well on its mounts. I think it may be the thrust washer part 11 on transmission diagram. Was looking for a repair manual to see how hard this would be to replace. Can you help?

Sorry in my earlier responce I incorrectly stated the thrust washer I think may be the problem was item 11 in the transmission diagram for my washer. The correct item number is 10.

If the belt is fine, the only solution for you is an LA1033 transmission. No one in their right mind would waste this kind of money on a 21-year old Norge washer.

Whatever notions you have about thrust washers do not apply to this particular machine.
