intermitant cooling
« on: November 10, 2008, 10:53:23 PM »
i have a kenmore model 106.70842100 with a very similar problem everthing is cold for a few days then cooling stops . if i turn the cold control knob down then back up it will kick on for a few more days. im guessing its a thermostat problem but whats the difference between a bimetal or thermostat ? there seem to be 2 parts listed under thermostat so which is it ? part number please?

You want the temperature control thermostat, shown below. The other one pertains to defrost and is not involved.

If you type the model number into the parts lookup, both questions will be answered.

The cold control that I showed you above is directly behind the  knob you've been turning up.

The bi metal is the terminator defrost thermistat. It works with the defrost heater and shuts it down at 50F so that the heater cannot harm anything for the remaining 20 minutes of the defrost mode.

The control thermostat has a knob mounted on it with numbers from 1-9
