GE oven turns on by itself

Customer complains that oven turns on by itself. I suspect that it is a faulty ERC or maybe aulty control panel. Can not locate a wiring diagram. Has anyone else had this problem. Thanks, Bill

The control panel which has the touch pad, as shown below, is the problem here. The wiring diagram is inside the top console.

Probably a stuck key pad. Heat up the control with a hair dryer or rub it with a hot damp rag.

Oven will intermittently come on without pushing any touchpad keys and display push and beep repeatedly. If you push cancel it will go back off and stay off for and undetermined amount of time . Sometimes a week and sometimes only a few hours. Checked keypad and found no stuck keypad buttons. Removed ERC and checked buttons on ERC and all looked ok. Wiped keypad with hot rag just in case I missed something. Told customer to notify me if it happens again. Due you still think this would be a faulty control panel or faulty oven control (ERC). The ERC will not come on unless there is a problem with the touch pad. Obviously you have not OHMed out each individual circuit on the touch pad to check the resistance. There is a specific value that the  ERC is looking for on each button.

Tell the customer the usual repair is to replace the touchpad (control panel) , but that the clock may also have to be replaced later on. Sometimes you can unhook the ribbon and clean the ribbon contacts with alcohol or contact cleaner. The receptacle where the ribbon plugs into the ERC can be sprayed with contact cleaner as well (not WD40 or Rustbuster!). This will sometimes improve communication between the touchpad and control and eliminates the contacts as a source of trouble.
