Amana Dishwasher

My dishwasher gets hotter and hotter and hotter and doesn't turn off the heating element even when the unit is not on.  I turned the heat dry option off, it still heats up.  I have turned it off at the breaker.  Is it the thermostat?  And if so, is this something I can repair myself?

Your timer controls power to the heat selector switch.
If the heat selector switch is off and you still have power to the heater, then the timer and the heat selector switch are suspect.

Use your volt meter and trace power from the timer to the selector switch. If power is present you have a bad timer contact.
Use your volt meter set for continuity and remove the wires from the heat selector switch. Check the open and closed settings on the selector switch.
