Kenmore Stacked Washer/Dryer

While in the final spin, the washer made a clanking noise and then a whirring noise. So I stopped the washer in mid-spin cycle (I had to scoop out the water which was left in the tub by hand). I left the timer on the final spin cycle, and now when I push the timer in the whirring noise is still there and the agitator does not spin. What's wrong? and how do I fix it? Thanks for your help!
