We had problems with those Embraco compressors from 2001-2003.

From your description you'll need one. You'll need the first 2 digits of your serial number to order the right one. There's one for the 10 series and a different compressor for the 27 series. New driers are usually included with the kit, but if not, it's part # 13900-1. And no, it's not a bad relay.

Probably a bad compressor relay. They get brittle and disentergrate. Unplug the ice box and remove the relay from the compressor and give it a shake. It should have a solid thunka thunka to it.(thats the floating bi-metal) What the floating bi-metal does is allow all the windings in the motor to energize to get that compressor going, then the bi-metal gets hot and drops out the start winding. If the relay makes no noise at all or it sounds like a salt shaker and little pieces are coming out of it then it is shot. If it looks and smells burnt yep it is bad. Replace it.

This is your compressor's relay. It is the exact part according to your posted model number:

How many compressors do you see at that link?  I count three. If he provides his  serial numbers, I'll make sure he gets the correct part. Too many cooks spoil the broth.

Vos bouches est ouverte, mais votre cerveau est fermé, JW.

Il vaut mieux d'être pensé un imbécile qu'ouvert votre bouche et enlève tout le doute.

(Did u know I'm a cajun by birth?)

On small compressors, the start winding is powered only during the first few seconds, then power is switched to the run winding. When this switching relay fails, the compressor will just hum for a few seconds and then click off on the overload. The compressor will also do this if it has seized or from low voltage at start up or a blown capacitor. With a failed relay the compressor rotor may start to move and pump for a few seconds or it could just remain stationary. In either case the windings draw high amps and trip off on the external or internal overload after a few seconds. Due to the design and location of these starting relays, it can be difficult to determine if the problem is the starting relay or the compressor without actually replacing the relay, but replacing a relay is much easier and less costly then a compressor replacement. In many cases it's cheaper to buy new equipment then a compressor replacement, but not on a 27" counter-depth side by side.

I always heard the only difference between a coonass and a jackass was the Mississippi River :)

I've gone ahead and included the Service Manual for this model .

One never know whose advice is one the mark so it's best to be informed from the horse's mouth, as they say.
