Neptune MAH4000 over filling

Door lock indicator comes on and it appears to be working fine. The timer never advances and it will continue to fill until you stop it (turn it off). According to my wife, the first time that it did this, it turned itself off after the laundry room and hallway was flooded. I tried to manually advance the dial to spin, but it still just wanted to add water. Also, it is adding hot water even though it is set for cold/cold. Any help would be appreciated.

You're going to need a new machine control board (p/n 22002989). It's in the top console, and when you open the control panel and remove the board, you  will see scorch marks along the lower edge on the green  back where it failed. (Even if your untrained eye cannot see the board failure, go ahead and replace it). The machine should work fine afterward.

The wise  consumer also replaces the door lock wax motor (12002535) to ward off any early failure of the machine control you just replaced. You'll find the Neptune manual here on the site.

Why is that?  The wax motor is cheap, so it'd be no big deal, but how does the wax motor protect the control?  How does a failure of the wax motor damage the control?

(I'd check the manual, but its a pay-for one & I'm gonna cough up for the cd shortly)

As I understand it the wax inside the earlier wax motor dissipated. This made the wax motor short out. and spike the control with a full on 120 volts. The job of the wax motor is to do 2 things: Lock the door AND verify back to the control it has done so. So if the wax motor is open the washer will not operate HOWEVER when the wax motor shorts out it kills the R11 resister and the Q6 triac. More here

The wax motor with the red shafts tended to short out, when they did, they take out the machine control with them. This was a flaw on Maytag's part for not incorporating an inexpensive fuse inline to the machine control which would blow if the wax motor drew more than .5 amps. The internal design of the wax motors was later changed and the newer ones have a black shaft instead of a red one. Naturally, by this time if you have a burned area at the R-22 resistor, it is too late to do anything but change both the wax motor and the control. This is an age-old issue with the first 2 series of Neptunes.

I passed through a few more posts, and that info was included.

(I'm cruising through this forum page by page, vicariously experiencing other's problems and increasing my own experience at the same time)

One person mentioned installing a 500 mA fuse to prevent this.  sounds good!

Any quick answer to how to know what the specs on that fuse should be?

As an aside, I can see that both of you have been around.  I also get quite a bit out of Tech Brian's posts.  Not to mention Icehouse, AJ, Whirlpool, OldStoveGuy.....
