Kenmore gas dryer model 11087992100 HE2
« on: January 10, 2017, 10:01:25 AM »
I have a Kenmore gas dryer model 11087992100 and need to access the diagnostic test mode.  The tech sheet says that the dryer should be in stand by mode plugged in with all indicators off or with only the Clothes Dryer indicator on.
I am trying to access these codes because the dryer is taking too long to dry clothes.  I suspect that one of the gas valve coils needs to be replaced.  The dryer was purchased in 2007 and was recently converted back to natural gas from LP, with the correct parts being re-installed.

I have removed the cover and inspected the flame with no load, the dryer on timed dryer and heat on high.  The flame stayed on, but the temperature of the exhaust air is about 120 - I believe it should be 150 - 160.  The piping is free of lint.

Suggestions for what to do next?

The  valve orifice for natural gas is a different size than LP gas. The natural gas orifice is slightly larger in diameter than the LP as the heating value  is different. You may need to have a technician (or someone who has the proper size drills or a set of orifices) check the size currently in place. You may have the wrong size orifice in place in your dryer.

Did it ever work right after they converted it back? Does the flame look like a large   Blue Flame?

Thank you for your reply.  The dryer came fitted for natural gas and we had a technician install the LP gas kit (which includes the orifice you refer to).  When he was done, he gave me the original parts for the dryer and when we converted from LP to natural gas, I had the heating technician re-install those parts and check gas pressures.  All that was okay.

I did some additional research and there are two parts, an operating thermostat and a dryer thermostat that can be tested for continuity.  Both of these allow the temperature variation to occur, including the high temperature, which in my case, is not working correctly.  That is my next stop. :thanks:

The gas pressure was correct by the tech sheet, but my wife noticed the drying time difference.  Now this is with using the sensor dry and I cannot swear that condition didn't exist prior to the switch back from LP to nat gas.  She throws stuff in there and walks away, coming back hours later.

Oh yeah, there is a big blue flame.

Is the dryer still running when she comes back?  Maybe try the time cycle with towels and set it for 60 minutes and see if it is dry.

Yeah, still running with the time automatically reset higher. I did ask her to do that with the timer, but I need to re-check the result with her. What I did was open the dryer and found portions of the load dry, so removed those. Of course, those were the easier to dry items. I will have her try the time dry again, thanks.

So the towels were finished for today; I ran a load of flannel sheets for 60 minutes on high and they were very slightly damp only at the seams and corners; running them 10 more minutes. BTW, the status light turned on 5 minutes into that 10 minute cycle next to the "wet" indicator; and these sheets are nothing like wet.  Can it be that the sensor strips are fouled?

Jrbarba you mentioned previously that the Dryer was changed back to Natural Gas - Did the technician or possibly you remove the blocking pin also - not just the oriface? There are two pieces (1) blocking pin for the valve and (1) Nozzle Oriface for the burner tip.????
