Maytag gas dryer Model DG8000
« on: January 08, 2017, 08:27:02 AM »
I was given the above model gas dryer and have determined that the motor is bad. It is not able to start the drum turning due presumably to seized bearings or damaged windings. When the start button is pressed it will buzz only but the drum will not start. I can turn the drum by hand. The motor in this dryer is an older design without the terminal block type connector. I have an alternate motor  with the more current type terminal block wiring that may fit and work but need some advice about the wiring connections to the dryer wiring harness. Can anyone steer me in the right direction about this  rewire or is it practical to attempt it. The dryer is in excellent condition otherwise.

This is the new part number for the motor W10410999 and it would come with these instructions.

Thanks
I will see what I can do after I mark all connections before I remove the old motor or install a different one.

I put a different  1/4 HP motor in place  of the original 1/3 hp version as it was something I had that would fit and rewired the terminals according to the instruction sheet  but have not had any success. I tried to make it rotate the motor but all I get is the buzzer noise  when the start button is pushed. I also noted that the timer motor is not making any noise as I would expect. There is 110 volts to the timer motor.  Any other suggestions ?

I have dismantled the timer to verify it is not stuck or has any other problems. None were found. I am at a loss to find what is wrong with this unit. When I plug it in and push the start button all I get is the loud buzz from the buzzer. I have tried rotating the timer dial to all the different positions while holding the start button in but nothing seems to make any difference. I am about to throw in the towel on this one and scrap it unless someone can think of something I might have overlooked in the rewire.

As this dryer seems to resist my efforts to make it work I have put it in the scrap bin after taking out any usable parts.
