Maytag washer will not spin

Washer will not spin. Unit was allowed to sit for 2 years in storage and reportedly worked prior to storage. When returned to service unit will pump out water but does not spin. Suspected that thrust bearing had failed. Installed new thrust bearing kit 12002213 according to instructions but washer still will not spin but the motor and transmission pulley are turning in the spin direction. Can't turn the tub from inside the unit. Could the tub bearing have seazed during storage? Any help will be appreciated.

Unfortunately the tub bearings did indeed seize after being dormant for so long. There may have been a pre-existing condition such as a leaking seal that exacerbated the situation. This Atlantis model requires special tools to do the beaing, hub and seal assemblies. If you want to invest in the special tools in order to repair the machine, then replacing the bearing should not be a problem. You were correct to try the thrust bearing first.

What special tools are required and where could i get them. Just wandering if purchasing tools would be cost effective. washer is like new.

After hurricane Katrina I freed up a bunch of the seized machines by removing the main pulley and using my maytag brake compression tool. I would carefully compress the brake till it popped loose and then sometimes replace the lining or sometimes simply remove it and clean it up grease it and re install it. That is what I did to mine. I didn't use any new parts. You might could break it loose using a claw tool and wd 40.

I swear there is a tool page here somewhere and if Mr. Capone sees fit, he will show us the light. You'd need the  the spring tool, agitator seal nut tool and the spin hub tool.  Lots of stuff for one repair, but hey you can fix it for life now .
