Ice maker doesn't work!
« on: October 03, 2008, 03:27:48 PM »
I recently bought this fridge from a friend who told me the ice maker was not working. My friend said a brand new ice maker was installed and it still would not work.

My friend called a repair tech to come look at it. The tech said it needed a new control board and was going to charge $400+ to fix it. Well my friend just bought a brand new fridge and sold this one to me.

Before I order a new control board, I wanted to get a second opinion. Thanks for any help you can give.

Why would a control board have anything to do with ice making? Put some water in the ice mold and wait. If it kicks out a batch then change the water valve.

Ok, when I went to put water in the mold I noticed the on/off switch for the icemaker was off. I turned it on and put water in the mold last night. I got up today and there was ice cubes. I don't know how many ice cubes one batch makes but there was at least 12 or more ice cubes.

I think I still need a new control board because when I try to get water or ice to come out nothing happens. The little light doesn't even work. What do you think??

Ok if you have ice cubes then wait and see if it fills up the bucket. If not then change that water valve and water filter too.

Your water valve does both water and ice in the door. It is a dual valve. Replace that puppy.

UPDATE:

I took the little panel off where the 2 switches are located for the light and water/ice cubes. I took the 4 screws out and pulled the panel out. I saw some wire harnesses and noticed one of them wasn't plugged in correctly.
I plugged it in the right way and now everything is working.

How long should it take to fill up the ice bucket?? Also, what is the best way to clean the area where the water and ice come out?? While I had the control panel out I noticed it was really dirty.

Might take 24 hours to fill the bucket or longer. Just use a sponge to wipe out the catch tray.

Everything is working great now.

One more question, I was going to change out the water filter but I can't seem to find it. Either Im blind or my fridge doesn't have one.

Their is no filter in the ice box you must put an inline filter on there.
