Whirlpool dishwasher runs great, but door leaks like crazy

Just to clarify: it wasn't necessary to replace the vent cover. It came off without a problem and was easy to clean of the small amount of material that was adhering do the cover itself.  Most of the material causing the clog was, however, inside the vent and exposed when the cover was removed. It, too, was easy to clean out -- just a matter of a few minutes work; easily removed with fingers and then with cotton swabs for the last little bits of it.

Of course I mean it wasn't necessary TO REPLACE THE VENT COVER WITH A NEW ONE. After cleaning the old one and cleaning out the vent, the old vent cover snapped back into place with no problem.  In that sense (only), the vent cover was indeed "replaced".

Not to say you cannot just clean the vent ,but when you do service jobs and the vent is cheap and  the new one  just snaps in and the old one is some times cake with minerals i would just replace it Because you stock it.And would advise a customer to run the hot water sink tap to flash out the cold water before running Dishwasher before every use.Also use a dishwasher cleaner every month.GLISTEN DISHWASHER CLEANER I FIND IS ONE OF THE BEST.Poor it in soap cup ,shut the soap cup and run your longest cycle.Rinse aid is also very important in todays Dishwashers.

Our dishwasher has been leaking on and off for years now.  This morning was the last straw.  While my handy husband was trying to figure out where the leak was coming from, I started querying the internet and found this website.   The dishwasher is over 10 years old, so you know the vent had quite a buildup.  It was the vent!  We are no longer leaking

Same problem here.  Began right after using one of those dishwasher cleaner bottles.  Thought it ruined my dishwasher.  Must have broken up a bunch of crap in the vent.  Cleaned it out and the leak stopped.  Awesome.  Thanks everyone.
