Just to clarify: it wasn't necessary to replace the vent cover. It came off without a problem and was easy to clean of the small amount of material that was adhering do the cover itself. Most of the material causing the clog was, however, inside the vent and exposed when the cover was removed. It, too, was easy to clean out -- just a matter of a few minutes work; easily removed with fingers and then with cotton swabs for the last little bits of it.
