Kenmore Elite Microwave keypad doesn't work

I have a Kenmore Elite Microwave that was manufactured Dec 2003.  In the past couple of weeks this happened twice: the keypad doesn't work.  Then after a few minutes it beeps once and suddenly works again.  Now today it never started working again.  I flipped the breaker and that turned off the lights underneath but the keypad still doesn't work.  The plug is up behind it so I can't try unplugging it, as forums for other brand microwaves have suggested.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!  I have five small children so I NEED my microwave, like NOW  I don't know if this means anything, but the few times it happened, the lights underneath were turned on beforehand.  Thanks!
