DE800KDW4 Timer Wiring Question - White-Westinghouse Dryer

Hi all, thanks in advance for the help!

I repaired my dryer yesterday (rear bearing and belt). The dryer works great, and is easy to work on. Anyway, when I was replacing the parts, evidently two of the wires popped off of the timer unit. It seemed clear where they came off, so (I know, stupid), I put them back on and, well, there was a bright flash inside the timer and that was the end of that.

Now apparently the timer is shot. I had a couple of questions.

Is it likely that replacing the timer is all that is necessary to make the unit operable again?

Can anyone clue me in as to which wires go where on the timer so I can hook them up properly the next time around?

Tonight I can post pics, but it was a single white wire lead, and a double orange/brown wire lead that popped off. They are on the top rear of the timer module.

Most of the color codes are stamped on the timer terminals (i.e. WH for white, OR for Orange, etc) Match them to the markings on the wires.

Like RM said if you look closely at the wires they have markings on them. These must match with the markings on the timer. You need to be sure which wires go where and where you went wrong before attempting to replace the timer. Besides you probably just blew the fuse located on the rear wall of the dryer in the upper right hand corner. Check that for continuity before buying that new timer amigo!

You never know it might not be the end for that timer. Take it apart and see what happened.

If the circuit breaker was doing its job, then the L1 side should be open at this point. It's always possible the timer simply arced and blew the circuit. The orange brown wire goes to the heater, so it was a direct short thru Neutral.

I don't think it will be necessary to take the timer apart, since that is a whole can of worms in itself. Reconnecting the wires properly should correct the short and the timer will either work or not.
