Maytag Performa Agitates, no spin

Ok, So my washer just stoped working in the spin Cycle.
It fills fine, Agitates, drains, but the spin never clicks in..
I was told it was the "thrust bearing" so i replaced that (40.00)  and nothing. so Then i was told it was my lid switch.. i jumpered that.. still nothing.. what else can i do before i scream at the next maytag man i see 8-(

If it drains, it's not the lid switch. If the lid switch were bad, the machine would stop dead  in the spin cycle and not drain.

If you replaced the thrust bearing and it still won't spin, there are 2 only choices left...either something is caught between the spin basket and the outer tub or your tub bearings are seized up. This would have been foretold by a louder than normal noise when the machine used to spin.


p.s. Screaming at the Maytag man will not solve anything. He didn't break the machine.

ok, Now if i take apart the spin basket and tub, will i end up breaking any kind of seal? or is this something i can do without the worry of having to fix another problem just to fix the first one? lol   also if its the bearings, is this a costly fix, like id rather just get a new one?

I don't want you to take anything apart. You can remove the plastic tub top without harming anything so you can inspect between the tubs. It just unsnaps from the outer tub. If the machine was noisy as I suggested earlier, you may as well hang it up. Bearing repair is not cheap, mainly due to the extra tools you'll need besides the $78 seal kit.

You can probably find a copy of the Performa manual around here somewhere.
