Model #MDE2400AYW, this little 24 inch dryer stopped heating during any of the drying cycles, but mechanically seemed to operate just fine. Normally when I trouble shoot dryers that are no longer heating, I work my way through the circuit looking for the component that has failed. But on this unit, the heating element is so easy to get to, I figured I would start there and then work back through the circuit.
The element on this dryer is a self contained unit that can be easily removed out the back of the unit just by removing four screws. Once I had the element housing in hand, it wasn't to difficult to figure out why it was no longer heating. The heater consists of several spring like coils that run top to bottom within the housing. One of them had broken loose from the top, and was now lying on the bottom. With the heater circuit now open, no heat was going to be generated out of this one.
A new heater
box was installed just as easily as the old one was removed and this dryer was ready again to start drying clothes.
