CROSLEY FRIDGE FREEZER NOT COOLING

Hello Techies,how are you today ?
We have a CROSLEY fridge cs23b6d model (5 years old) and it is not functioning.
Freezer  and fridge areas are not cooling.Sometimes there is a clicking noise in back of fridge.
any ideas would be most appreciated.thank you .cheers from CORNWALL ontario Canada.

Your relay is probably fried. Check it out: this relay mounts on the compressor. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=46463
Carefully remove this dude from your compressor and do a simple test. Shake it: if tiny bits of particles inside sound like a salt shaker then it is bad. If it smells burned or looks burned its bad. If it makes a thunka thunka type sound then it is good. If it makes no sound at all, it is toast. Replace it

I followed your expert advice and removed the relay and yes it does make a rattling sound like a salt shaker and particles of metal also fall out of it.
Thank you very much sir ,for your quick response and assistance. You are awesome.
Now all I have to do is find a place that sells those relays here in CORNWALL ontario Canada.
I will send you an update when I replace this part and let you know if my boss (Diane,the wife) is happy with her installation and repair !! take care

just a quick update on the Crosley refridgerator. I found a part (relay and overload) and installed it and the freezer is now operating properly.
THANK YOU very much for your expertize and advice.
and just off topic,we are very disappointed with Crosley products and their service and we will not be shopping for their brand anymore.
In regards to this site and assistance it is now on my favorites and I will email all my friends and tell them how great of service and advice this site is .

Anytime you need assistance just feel free to ask me. I worked for a Crosley distributor for 15 years. While they are a bit cantankerous a Crosley is a better product than its Maytag counterparts.

I have the same problem with the same make and model refrigerator.
I shook the white box and it sounded like a salt shaker.
I followed the link you listed above and purchased the relay and the overload. The overload fits in the box fine but the relay does not fit.
Description:

Part Number: AP4071456 made by WHIRLPOOL

I compared my part with the part on AppliancePartsPro and it's the same so I know they sent me the right part ordered.

It is very simple. That relay plugs into the start and run compressor pins. You connect one hot wire to that relay with a spade clip. The other hot leg gets a compressor terminal clip on it and simply slides onto the top pin or common. The common wire goes on first, then you shove the relay on and it even has a little shoulder on it to help hold that common wire in place. It may appear different but it does the same thang.

Dear Mr. Webster,
I dont have a problem connecting the relay to the compressor but the wire to the relay are confusing.
There are 4 prongs on my relay. 1 small and 3 the same size.
Which should I connect?

OK look at the compressor cover. C is common and we gonna connect one wire there
 It will say C S and R on that cover.
 S and R are run and start. Look on the cover and you want to hook the wire on that relay to the R side of the compressor on that diagram. I am thinking either one of them 2 on the right hand side will work. If you connect it wrong and have the wire on the wrong side the dang thang will just run hot and quit.
