We recently washed a blanket which totally disintegrated in the washing machine.  Most of the "fluff" is between the basket and the tub.  I have removed the console, the cabinet, and the agitator but I do not see how to get between the basket and the tub.  Separating the two would be much easier than trying to vacuum to the bottom and I would like to see if there is any damage.  Any suggestions?  Okay, any solutions?

Try unsnapping the cover on the top and picking out the stuff you can see. To remove the spin basket requires a spanner wrench...probably not in your neighbor's tool box




You might also have some luck by removing the drain hose from the underside of the tub. Any loose fluff will concentrate on the drain outlet and pump. This will be your best bet.

It might be easier to get the case off and take the small pump hose from tub off. And wash down the stuff outside. I bet the pump is full of that stuff and clogged too. I have seen that. Last month a lady washed a rubber rug and all the rubber came off and got into the pump. We had to take the case off and remove the pumpthe hoses and wash out the mess. Luckily no parts were needed.

Thanks everyone - Great advice all.  The space was jammed with "fluff" and we found a 28"-long flat attachment for the shop-vac.  We got everything that was reachable then we disconnected the pump hoses (top, bottom, and tub) and rinsed the remainder.  No problem at all since the "fluff" was all loose and soluble in water, once you could get some room for the water to gather.
