Whirlpool dishwasher won't drain

Dishwasher won't drain, pulled apart all obvious parts to try to get the the "chopper" or drain but am stuck - I seem to have a part I can't figure out how to "un-screw"

I can't figure out how to get "12" out of "11".

12 is a screw...use the appropritate nut drive to remove.

11 is the inpeller, which you'll notice on the diagram has a flat side on top to allow a Crescent wrench to hold it while #12 is removed.

  -ratcha fratcha - I was able to get the screw out of the impeller - but now I have managed to strip the screw head on one of the foriegn made cheesy star headed screws (part #10).
any suggestions, short of selling the house or buying a new dishwasher - - - I know, I know - why didn't I just call a service tech - - cause I am pretty handy and thought I could figure it out. I am guessing there is gunk in the chopper creating blockage

Not usually the chopper on a nodrain situation. On this series, I usually find a blockage at the drain outlet (#15). There's a small plastic ball in there that acts as a backflow preventer. Sometimes debris can get in there. Remove the hose and this white plastic assembly will unscrew from the pump base.

Also disconnect the drain hose at the disposer or wherever so you can monitor the output into a pail. If you have recently replaced the disposer, be sure the drain plug is knocked out.

Check it out The pump and motor just lifts out of the dishwasher tub. It is easier to do some work on this puppy on the bench. Or just drop in a new motor and pump. It is cheaper than a new dishwasher. Remove the drain hose and their are 4 wings that get moved and unplug the quick connect and the whole thing lifts out of the dishwasher.

On these types of dishwasher I find it's most often like Repair-man said.

If there is water in the dishwasher I end up pulling it out from under the cabinet.
Then I can tip it back or lay it down on it's back and remove the drain outlet from the pump without water draining out all over the place.

THANKS so much for this thread!  I was able to fix my whirlpool dishwasher due to this thread and the pictures used really helped alot. In fact I had already took this apart but did not relize to twist until I saw the threads in the pic on the part so yeah it is running great now and I got to save money and at this time it could not have been better timing to save with the hard economic times we are all going through.
