Whirlpool direct drive agitates but no spin

After the water all drains out there should be another pause were the motor stop running. Then the motor should kick in again and the washer should spin.

Yes, I did observe this.  But no spin.

What is the model number of your washer?

Sounds like the timer is doing it's job with the correct pauses.

Looks like it's time to replace the tranny.

It's not to hard of a job. Takes me about 20 minutes to put one in. That's if I have enough room to work and everything comes apart ok.

Being yours is not all that old I would think it would come apart easy enough.

Not a cheap part.  But I guess, cheaper to put in myself!

Is the part going to have installation instructions?  I'm pretty handy, and would guess that upon unbolting it would be obvious.  Is this correct?

No instruction with it. I think the hardest part for anyone that has never done one before will be moving the clutch over from the top of the old tranny to the new one. Then you will have to make sure the clutch goes into the brake correctly when you slide the tranny back up into the washer.

Other then that all you have to do is remove the agitator. The agitator is the only thing you have to remove from the top of the washer.

Then remove the cabinet, lay the washer on it's back. I often lay the washer on the tranny box so what little water is in the washer does not run all over the place.

Even if all the water is pumped out there is some in the pump and if you lay it on flate on it's back water will run out the top of the tub and onto the floor.

Remove the pump from the motor, you can leave the hoses on the pump. Then remove the motor. Then the tranny will have three bolts that hold it in.

Remove the three tranny bolts and slide it out.

I have heard other say you don't have to grease the new tranny shaft, but I alway's put just a little bit of grease on it. I use some high temp bearing grease.

Just very little grease and don't get it on the clutch.

If you need more help once you get it and can try and post some more details with photo. Maybe even get a video posted if I do a tranny job between now and then.
