Maytag dependable care
« on: August 08, 2008, 11:05:02 AM »
Just got a dryer from my inlaws, the problem is there's no heat, it worked for one cycle, then I smelled natural gas, shut it off, let it sit, restarted & no more gas smell, no more heat. How do you take off the panel to get to inside to test what the problem is? It's now unplugged & waiting for me to fix it. Wifes tapping her foot impatiently

Worth 1000 words...

Pick up a set of coils for the gas valve.

If it works once and quits then replace these intermittant coils:

The top picture? Are those the last screws holding the base plate??? (after removing side screws).

There's no heat at all now, it just worked for one cycle & a little bit for the second, then cut out & leaked out NG while it was running. I'm guessing there's some safety solenoid because there's been no more gas leak, but also no more heat. Not an intermittent problem, if that's how you understood it.
Sorry if I'm not making any sense, cars are easy to work on, this thing not so much. :-\

It is intermittant because it works then quits then cools off and works once again.

Hi,

That file is 9.66MB and if your on a dial up connection it's going to take sometime to download it all.

I just tried the link and was able to download it in seconds, but I have one hell of a fast internet connection.  8)

once you remove them 2 bottom screws then pull the bottom of the front panel towards you and it will come off easily.
You will then see the Gas operator in front. The coils just have quick connects. their are 2 phillips screws to remove. Replacing the coils is pretty easy. They can only go on one way. One of them has a 3 prong connection and the other has a 2 prong connection. If the gas assembly works once and then gets hot and quits then them coils are bad.

O0 Yes you are. It's so simple when you know where to look. Now that I got the cover off, do you recommend that I hook it up to gas etc. (jumping door switch contacts) & test to see if it get warm & cold, or just go ahead & remove them & order new ones. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
