power on but DOES NOT WORK

Magic Chef oven Model No. 35HA-63LX ON DOES NOT WORK AT ALL. Its Sunday and we have no way to cook. The only thing that works is the light inside the oven. No top burners, no oven, the indicator lights on the display do not come on either. All of the wires look good can any one help.

If 1/2 of the breaker has tripped or there is a burned wire somewhere, the oven won't work, just the lights. You must have a true voltmeter and check the voltage at the spot where the power connects to the range in back. If you do not show 240 volts between the red and the black wires on the power connection, you  have circuit issues.

At least now i know the problem. The main power cord is buned in half (its a 3 wire cord). The lead that connects to the red wires is burned. The leads that connect the white and black wires are good. Is it safe to replace the cord or is there another problem that caused the cord to burn?

Just replace the cord. If any of the red wires are singed, you must crimp new terminals on them after trimming the bad part off. Generally, I do the same thing with power cords. I carry heavy duty ring terminals in my toolkit and cut off the bad section of cord.

Nothing else caused this problem other than failure to connect the cord firmly in the first place. I see this mainly on dryers, but any high amperage appliance must be securely wired. If any part of the terminal block was damaged or if the nuts won't come off the red side any longer, you'll need to get a new block and some crimping supplies.

Semper Fi I believe this question was in the appliance parts forum as well. I thought it might be a 50 amp breaker or a bad receptacle. if the pigtail is burnt in half that is a good assumption their won't be no power to the stove.
