Refrigerator cycles on & off

Evap fan cycles on & off, no compressor run. I turn the thermostat to off the on to mid-temp everything runs for a while then shuts down and restarts the cycling thing. The compressor gets fairly hot
At start and run it is only drawing 2 amps, I am wondering if low current is my problem. This Icebox is in a small house with a Photo-Voltaic system on a 2kw inverter, 116vac @ 60Htz (17.25 amps) for the whole house. Input please

I could not find anything on that model. Could you double check that model number?

I never heard of a Photo-Voltaic system, could you tell me what that is?

The refrigerator had been running ok on this Photo-Voltaic system before now?

Sounds like either a problem with the start relay or the compressor.
Did you happen to ohm out the compressor?

Apparently it is a new product only place that recognized it model # was Sears Parts direct. I didn't Ohm the compressor. I don't know if this Box has run or not, the man called and said his Refr. wouldn,t
freeze & it was off more than on (wasn't running when I got there). I turn the defrost timer and it started, ran couple of minutes and quit.
I checked the relay & overload (both Good) but hot.
A Photo-Voltaic system is a solar panel system (this one is a 24v battery storage system) it has a 2000 watt inverter.
I told the owner that I thought that he didn't have enough amperage
to run the unit. (Like running a freezer on a 100ft 16ga extention cord) overheats and thermals out. What ya think???

Determine the amp draw from the nominclature tag. then see what the actual ampdraw is with the inverter. I think you may be right. An inverter ain't gonna run a ice box even if the compressor is DC. Reason being is the power is based on an inverter in the first place. You are using an inverter to drive an inverter driven ice box. Weird.

The inverter may not be able to handle the start current of the Compressor (especially if other devices are being used).

Thanks for the help so far, looking at the service sheet 110 watts is normal run at 110 amb. (.94 amps) and less than that at lower amb.,
maybe a 2amp start is normal. I may have a weak relay that's not holding and chattering or a bad thermostat

Finally, found out today, it was the inverter system,(Owner error)
the fellow set his inverter in a standby mode this past winter,  supposedly, the inverter would allow for a small momentary current surge to allow the compressor to start but would not allow for more than 1amp to run thus bypassing the defrost cycle while allowing the timer to still run.  I told him the nite I put this on here to plug in a drill or saw to see if they would run, apparently he waited a week to try it, found out they wouldn,t. He took that circuit off standby mode
and low & behold the fridge works like it is surposed to.
MORAL TO THE STORY: If youare working in the boonies make sure
appliance in serviced by public utility, so you don't have to troubleshoot the power source too!
