small in door Whirlpool icemaker problem
« on: August 28, 2014, 06:36:35 PM »
Customer has a GSF26C5EXW02 Whirlpool fridge.  It has the small 6 cube icemaker in the door.  Its not making ice.

The receiver light is not on when the flapper is held down.  The manual says to replace receiver (w10518658), so I did.

The light came on when the flapper was held, but still would not power icemaker.

After about 5 minutes, the light would no longer light up.

So I am assuming there is a problem with the emitter board.

I can't imagine the icemaker is making the light stay on for a short time and then go out.

Note, I put the original board back in and it acting the same.  the light lit up when the flapper was held at first, but after 5 minutes, it would not come on at all.

Any help is appreciated.

Sheesh. so looking at the manual again, it looks like the receiver is the board behind the flapper, not the other one.  I used Apdepot.com to look up the parts and it showed the board on the left being the receiver.

If I am reading the manual right, the board on the right, behind the flapper, is the receiver and the board on the left, with the on off switch, is the emiiter.

If thats the case, then I did not change the receiver, I changed the emitter.

I did change part number w10518658

I am now ordering part number w10518659

any advice is still welcome.

Nope. I have seen a similar problem on a few others and not figured it out. I think it may be a problem with the main board.
