GE Washer only fills on casual cycle
« on: August 24, 2014, 07:04:25 PM »
Washer only fills on casual cycle, pressure switch seems to work because it does low/large/super correctly.  When you attempt to start on dark or normal cycle, washer starts trying to drain instead of fill... then goes into agitate.

Replaced timer thinking that could be the issue, didn't help.

To assist you, we need the Washer Model# (should be printed on white sticker located on upper rear panel or under the lid/door on top panel right rear corner)
Be sure end of drain hose is less than 6 inches into the Wall (use a tie strap to attach drain hose to the hot or cold hose so it doesn't pop out).

Does the drain hose location have that much effect on the washer?  IIRC it actually was about a foot into the drain port in the wall.

So, the washer is empty. You set timer to darks, pull timer knob to start, it doesn't start filling but instead the drain pump comes on and then it starts agitating with no water in it? Works fine in casual setting? The only thing that can cause this is a bad timer.

Does this washer have a transmission or is it a hydrowave model with mode shifter, large pulley with wide flat belt?

Is this the timer part number you put in? http://www.appliancepartspros.com/ge-p034-cntrl-shield-wh49x10087-ap4567153.html

And this is your model number? WCSR2090G9WW

Fairbank, you are correct.

So my fix was to replace the timer with a new one (the exact one someone linked to in this thread) and the problem still persists.

You can actually set the timer to the blank area in between one cycle's off setting, and the next cycles start setting and it will fill with water.  It seems like the  settings aren't as listed on the washer panel.  That leads me to believe perhaps someone in the past swapped panels with a different model.

I have listed the part number from the panel if any of you guys have a parts reference.

Thanks for all your help.

If you have the original timer (that came with the Washer when you purchased) then it will possibly have the part number printed on it.
If not then take a picture of the Control Panel and maybe we can match it with the correct Timer.

Does your console look like this? GE washer part numbers start with WH and they never stamp their parts with numbers.  If your console is different, I would use the picture as guide and mark positions on your console.

I swapped the control panel out with one out of a model unit.  It baffles me as to why someone would change the panel to a completely different style.  Ugh.

Very appreciative of everyone's assistance here.  Thanks guys.
