Washer seem to start ok, but when it get to the rinse cycle it stops on the first number 1.
The wife presses the start and it goes until it get to the next number 2 and stops again. She does it again for each number until it gets the finish.

Seem to wash ok and drain, but the bleach and softener do not empty.

I replaced the control board in 2001 due to a power line surge or brown out.
Hope it is not time for a new one

The washer uses cold water for the rinse cycle.
Check the screens inside the water fill valve in back of the washer to see if they are plugged up. Maybe just the cold water one is plugged, but now is a good time to check them both.

Just turn the water off and remove the hoses from the back of the washer. Take a look inside the valve and you will see the screen. This screen can just be pulled out and cleaned up.

Let me know what you find there...

Then take a good look at both the motor control board and the control board on top behind the timer for damage.

Use a good flashlight and look good when checking the motor control board on the bottom of the washer.

Look like the timer stalls at the rinse time and if I am reading the repairmbook right the controller board drop the power if the timer does not move.
here what in print:
There are conditions under which the machine control will shut the cycle down if the
timer does not advance.
- During Extra Wash/Prewash: If the timer inputs do not change away from Prewash
Tumble for 15 minutes, the machine control will open the line relay.
- During Main Wash: If the timer inputs do not change for 29 minutes, the machine
control will open the line relay.
- During any increment when the machine control energizes the timer motor until it
sees the timer inputs change: If the timer inputs do not change for 5 minutes with the
timer motor continuously energized, the machine control will open the line relay.
These varying delays are to allow the washer to progress through several increments
where the timer inputs normally do not change. In these cases, the machine control
energizes the timer motor for 30 seconds, which is its advance time. It does not look for
a timer input change.

Did you look at the boards for damage as AJ suggested?

Alway's check the simple things first, such as things you can just look at to see if they are bad.

You could have a timer problem, but I have repaired a ton of these things.
It's alway's the same few parts making all the problems, plugged water valve, bad board, bad connections, bad bearing and water pumps.

I can't think of the last time I put a timer in one of these washers and I would say 95% of the time a control board is  bad you can see the damage on the board so I don't even have to get the meter out to check them.

Have not check the board as of yet, still reading the repair book. To late to check today, but will do next light
Hear what the book has;
Washer Runs Five Minutes Then Shuts OFF:
During the wash cycle, the machine control
communicates with the timer, via the timer input
circuits. If the machine control board does
not see a change in timer inputs over a period
of 5 minutes, it will open the line relay and shut
the washer off. Check the timer input circuits
for poor connections at the timer and the machine
control board. Replace timer if necessary
(See Section 2: Timer Input Circuits).

Only thing here it only stops at the rinse cycle.

Wife said we are not going to put out $200.00 for a controller board again.

Just check again and this time it stopped in the wash cycle.

Guess I need to pull off the hoses to check the water supply. Book said:
Shuts OFF During Final Rinses:
The machine control board is programmed to
allow a maximum continous fill time of six
minutes or an accumulated fill time of 8 minutes
for each full wash cycle. If the required
fill time exceeds the time limit, the washer will
shut down. This is to prevent flooding in the
event there is a loose hose clamp or damaged
air dome hose. Check the incoming water lines
for a minimum pressure of 20 psi. If lower,
the customer can use smaller clothes loads
and reduce the pressure to 10 psi. An alternative
solution would be to change the plastic
inlet screens to metal screened washers and
remove the nozzle extender found in the water
valve inlet hose near the dispener inlet
