Whirlpool Thermal Fuse - GU3200XTXY3
« on: July 28, 2014, 12:08:34 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I'm having trouble with my 3 year old Whirlpool dishwasher GU3200XTXY3...

About 1 year ago my thermal fuse blew.  I bought the replacement kit with the wires and block and replaced per instructions.  No problems unit 2 weeks ago and I'm only getting about 3 cycles before the fuse will blow and I'm on my 3rd fuse in the last 2 weeks.  My most recent attempt makes me suspect it is when Sani - Rinse (higher temp wash) option is selected.  At this point I'm a little lost as to what to do or try.  Is my unit junk?

Any help will be appreciated greatly!

It is important to change the wire harness supplied with fuse each time. If you did and it still blew you probably need to replace the control

Thanks for the reply

I did replace the harness each time as you mentioned.

I would much rather replace the control panel vs the whole unit.  Is there some testing I can do to confirm this is the way to go??

Under close supervision I did bypass the thermal fuse to drain out the water from its previous cycle and everything seems to work fine but can't sleep good bypassing this fuse.

The fuse protects the control. It is a thermal fuse. I would replace control board based off what you are saying.

You will notice that the fuse is above some heavy gauge wires.See if any have darkened from being hot.I believe some of those go to the heater.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Bailey,

I attached a few pictures.  The wires do appear slightly darker near the plastic harness but most of the black is from the plastic insulation.  I did lift off the harness right above the thermal fuse to find some darkening on the control board.  You'll see this in the picture..

Thanks so much for having a look and appreciate your response.

Your board is bad and your harness needs to be replaced or cut off the black heater connector and redo spade connectors individually with high quality connectors. New factory harness the better idea

Thanks so much for the help.

Before I change out the parts you suggested.  Do you guys think it is possible that another component could have cased the circuit board to go bad?  Just don't want to replace board/harness and be back where I started.

No. Caused by bad connection at board
