My older whirlpool washer stopped spinning and agitating. It still fills and drains well and is still running and making noise similar to when it was working normally through the whole cycle. I'm am new to any type of appliance repair but I have been reading up on my washer in the last couple of days. I replaced the agitator dogs as they were falling apart on inspection. I have checked the coupler and it is intact. The engine turns easily by hand both ways. I have checked the pump, pump hoses and in between the tubs for something that could be stopping the agitation and found nothing. Any ideas? Could it be the transmission? How would I know? The washer gets tons of use as we are a large family and the laundry is piling up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
