Jazz board diagnostics test 1 results?
« on: June 09, 2014, 11:47:55 AM »
Hello, I have an Amana Refrigerator model #ABB2227DES bottom freezer unit that I would like some help with.  the problem is the freezer works, fridge is too warm. Ran thru the diagnostics for the mid level Jass control board (12784415) and test 1 (Defrost thermostat and defrost circuit test) shows the defrost thermostat as open. Is this telling me that the thermostat is defective? I checked the heater with a dvm and it's at 29.9 ohms and  the heater does not heat up when in forced defrost mode.  i going to order an control board but would like an explanation to my test 1 results. Thanks

Thanks, I found the answer to my own question. Seems I checked the defrost thermostat right after defrosting the freezer with my hair dryer. It showed an open (o) because the the components were not cold enough during the test. Now that it's been running I get a (s) for shorted or closed. The thermostat should be shorted or closed anytime it is cold and it's safe to run a defrost cycle. I need to order a jazz board.

So i guess the freezer is all frosted over from top to bottom and if so and you tested defrost thermostat at control board with all this frost and it read open you just could have a bad thermostat.Jazz boards do go bad a lot.So what i am sayings is you need to now if there was ice around the thermostat. That would keep it cold enough if good to give you a close reading.Do you know if it was covered with frost from top  to the bottom of the evaporator indication of a good seal system meaning freon systems ok.Maybe try test again in a couple hours.Frost pattern is critical for accurate diagnose.

Yes. Ice and some frost top to bottom and all around the thermostat. I first tested right after defrosting the whole thing and got an (O)  open. An hour after I turned everything back on, it tested as a "S" for shorted or good.
