Where is the defrost control? Is it the HV Board by the compressor?

I replaced that one. Didn't see anything about programming it in the box.

So the thermostat and heater have continuity. I can put it into a forced defrost but the compressor and fans still run.On the parts breakdown it shows the two piece board like I have replaced before. But this model only has a small skinny board that looks like it is for the display. I replaced it thinking " Hey, they just made it smaller". Here is the stupid part. That HV board is not available. Servall part lookup says it must be sent in for repair. AJ thanks for the service manual but this unit is like a mid production model where the parts changed but the information didn't and of course the tech sheet which should be behind the kick plate is missing.

Yeah i saw that manual AJ but that is a weird model with on the look up the board in the refrigerator looks like a jazz and changes to the part Bailey got. Then they say some have to be program and some if there is know code by model number you don,t.Then i look up H.V board and a customer ask if it was part of the defrost circuit and the was yes.

Just a follow up on this refrigerator. A friend of mine who is one of the guys on the Whirlpool tech line confirmed that the defrost control is in the high voltage board by the compressor and is no linger available as a replacement part. This is an 8 year old refrigerator. So I informed the customer we would have to send it off for repair and it would take about 10 days during which time the refrigerator would not work. They said they would call when they were ready. So 2 months later, they call. They were using a hairdryer to defrost when it would stop cooling. I sent the board off to Core Centric. I got a call yesterday that the board is not repairable. My customers weren't very happy. They want me to reinstall the board and they are going to keep using it. Any one have a used board?

They told me the problem was with the main chip which is not available as a replacement part. I'm thinking thats the part with the programming.

They are cheaper than Fix your board. If they had repaired this one it was $99.99
