Electrolux Lower Ice Maker not filling
« on: June 04, 2014, 07:40:06 AM »
I have an Electrolux Model E1238C35KS5 and recently the lower ice maker is not making any ice. It does not fill. The upper ice maker in the refrigerator is working normally.
I fumbled around the web a little and entered the diagnostic mode and the only thing that was a little strange was that test 58c is flashing when I get to it. No other tests flash. I have no idea how to test anything, I was just looking at the tests on the display.
I have already taken the lower ice maker unit out and let it sit and reinstalled it to no avail.
Anyone have any input on what to try?
Of course it quit working one month after we owned it for a year.
thanks

I have thought of that but didn't really check. I guess I can shove a hanger up there but I don't want to wreck anything. Thanks for the reply.

hmm your model number didn't work for me, but if this is the french door style electrolux, then you should be able to pull the large drawer out from the fresh food compartment, the tube should go through the bottom of the fresh food compartment into the freezer near the rear  left corner.   if the tube thats in their is a straight tube that the water line screws strait into from the top then it's the old style, they replaced this with one that has a leg coming off at an angle near the top which helps prevent it from freezing up... either way you should be able to unscrew the water tube , twist the fill tube about a quarter of a turn and then pull it up and out to see if it's frozen, and then to clear it..   it should have a 1/4 inch thick foam insulation pad wrapped around it.. I've seen a few that had that part left off and they were all frozen..

Thanks for the reply. I took everything apart to look. I have a water filter that I had to unscrew. I dropped one screw into a small hole that was covered by the filter housing. It might as well be a black hole because that screw is gone.
The blue water tube comes from a solenoid in the back of the refrigerator to the 90 degree fitting and then into the tube. The tube was clear and the water tube had some water in it so it is not frozen.
Thru the process of elimination I am thinking I either have a bad ice unit in the lower end. Or a bad solenoid switch in the back but I don't know how to check either of those issues.
Anyone know how much the freezer side ice making unit costs or a part number? Thanks for the help so far.

E1238C35KS5 does not seem to be a good model number, at least I could not find anything using that number.
The model number can be found on the model/serial number that is located inside the refrigerator. Please double check it.
Hope you find our site helpful.

Bad eyes for me.

Model EI23BC35KS5
Serial 4A31106795

Optional Icemaker Model # JBCD-23  I am not sure if this is the icemaker for the lower unit or not. The machine is an Electrolux and was made in Mexico.

i guess you got this Tech. Sheet?
ftp://ftp.electrolux-na.com/ProdInfo_PDF/Anderson/242199100.pdf
There does not seem to be a service manual on this one.

I did the lower maker test and nothing happened. I was able to manually rotate the gear for a complete cycle but nothing engaged nothing happened other than me rotating the gear. Any help there? a switch in the maker or is the maker bad?
I'll spend the 110 bucks for a new one but if this one has an easy fix I am in.
Thanks for the tech sheets!

when you manually turned the icemaker, did you hold down the freezer door switch? can't remember for sure but I think the door switch has to be closed for it to send power to the icemaker..
