LG Gasket/Latch Problem
« on: May 29, 2014, 12:37:32 AM »
LG built Kenmore model 795.75556401. Customer called and said the latch for left door was broken.  I showed up with a 4987JJ2002R gasket and installed it.  It doesn't pull the door tight, there's about a 1/16th inch gap. I took it off and reinstalled it.  I made sure the little spring was installed right. The problem persists.

They changed the way they make this model because of this issue. you may want to take the whole door off and look at both hinges (top and bottom) they may have gotten bent making the door not sit properly.  Does the door also pop open when you slam one door shut? (When they are closed)

On that model, that havr a more important catch on either lower hinge. It is mounted with one screw and one pin. The pin usually snaps. I believe they may have changed the part thst the gasket latch meets to, on the cabinet.

Thanks for the replies. I've ordered the bottom latch. I see that both door gaskets and the latch holder that mounts to the cabinet have had part number changes.  If they changed the latch on the door gasket to match the new latch holder, doesn't that mean I'll have to change the right side gasket too? I'll take some measurements when I go back.

I replaced the bottom door stopper, MJB63029901, and that seems to have done the trick.  It pulls in nice and tight, I guess the upper latch on that side is just for show.  I found out you don't need to order the whole gasket for a broken latch. The left latch is 4430JJ2004B, the right one is 4430JJ2004A.
