thinking of replacing my 24 yr ols elect not yet leaking waterheater...I looked at Whirlpool and Richmond...any diff to speak of between the two ?

Did you change that water heater yet..you know it will go middle of night on a holiday when your out of town.
I think you got your moneys worth..don't know about those 2 being same though.

Rheem use to make for GE now I see Rheem name on them not GE..sold at HD...whirlpool sold at Lowes.

According to another site rheem makes richmond.

I use to buy tractor loads scratch dent water heaters..they were GE labeled..I used to get lot of customer returned
mixed in the load. looked new but no dents  some people hate dents.. but  90 percent top element was just blown. I buy those elements by the box .replace elements, Ck elec system, pressure test. and sell as refurbished units.
ngas was cked with propane and pres tested..no manufacture warrantys .It was win win situation for everybody.
