Temperatures during a defrost cycle.
« on: May 08, 2014, 09:37:11 PM »
I have a GE GTS22FBMAR, normally my freezer temp is 10f, and fridge 38f. During a defrost cycle it warms up to 20f and 45f.
Does that sound like its working properly? Are those temps acceptable during a defrost cycle?
thanks

Those temps are definitely in the right ballpark. How much food in the freezer? A GE engineer sent me an e-mail saying that the freezer is designed to be 60% loaded.

Today I noticed during a defrost cycle my freezer temp reached 40f and fridge 45f.
Isn't that way to warm for the freezer? my freezer was 80% full, and no food was blocking the thermistor.

recently replaced:
logic board
all thermistors(3)
defrost timer
both fan motors

How are you measuring your temperatures?  When I see warm defrost temps, it's usually a bad evaporator thermistor.  But, it looks like you've replaced it along everything else that could cause the problem.  I assume you replaced the defrost limiter since it doesn't have a timer.  Defrost timing is controlled by the main board.

Ok, I've figured out whats giving me so much trouble.
In between defrost cycles, ice starts building up on the evap coils.
As it does, less air circulates to the fridge. Freezer stays cold. So
less air in the fridge, makes it warmer. IDK why the thermistor, which is
new doesn't compensate. Instead my fridge gets warmer until the defrost
cycle kicks in. Then things are back to normal for a while....

What do you guys think?
