WM2032HW Manual Inducing Shuts off Breaker
« on: May 08, 2014, 03:12:48 AM »
I have Lg wm2032hw. Sometimes it used to stop the motor in the middle of the cycle. A light tap with my hand on the control board cover solved this issue many times.
Then suddenly the washer shut off and smoked. So it blew IPM, and one of the board prints near the fuse exploded. I replaced IPM, and fixed the print.

Now the washer doesn't turn on by the power button.
When the washer is NOT plugged into power, manual inducing of the tub turns on the washer just fine. The wheel and knobs work.
If I plug it into power outlet and turn the tub, the breaker shuts off. I assume there is a short circuit.

How do I test the board?

Thank you.

Test the motor.   Pull plug off of motor, test bertween 1&2, 2&3 and 1&3.   Each should be 5-15 ohms.

Test the hall sensor...

Voltage Testing Hall Sensor from the Main PCB Assembly

1.Unplug power cord.
2.Remove rear panel.
3.Remove Washer Top.
4.Remove Main PCB Assembly cover.
5.Locate the white Hall Sensor 4 wire connector using wiring diagram wire colors as your guide.
6.Plug in power cord, close door, and press power button. DO NOT PRESS START!
7.Place meter leads on White & Gray wires. You should read 10 to 15 Vdc output from the Main PCB Assembly to the Hall sensor. If no 10 to 15 Vdc is measured the control board is defective.
8.Place meters leads on Blue to Gray. Turn motor rotor slowly by hand. You should measure a pulsing 10 Vdc. Place meter leads on Red to Gray. Turn motor rotor slowly by hand. You should measure a pulsing 10 Vdc. If both tests measure a pulsing 10 Vdc, hall sensor and harness OK. If either or both tests measures 9 to 10 volts, but does not pulse or change, Hall sensor has failed and must be replaced. IF zero (0) voltage is measured on either test, check red & blue wires for continuity. Repair or replace harness as needed.

Hi! Thank you for your last response on how to test motor and hall sensor. The instructions were very clear and true to life.

So motor and hall sensor appear to be OK. Another problem was a bad diode bridge. I replaced it and now the washer is up and running, finishes all cycles, just as a new washer.

However, the IPM heat sink seems to be hot during a cycle. I can't put my fingers on it for more than 1 second. Is it OK? This washer is made in 2003. I compared the temperature of the same thing in a 2009  LG washer: i could hold my fingers there (both washers were running the same cycle, the same amount of time).

With additional heat sink area help, or a small fan (like inside computer) blowing straight onto it?

Thanks again,
Vitaliy.

Also, I have another question. I have got a LG WM2101HW washer. It turns on, dials through the cycles (lights change accordingly). But all other buttons (including run, temp, soil level ...) are unresponsive. Also, the washer won't go into a test mode. Instead it turns on regularly.

There's no method/provision/tool available specifically---for dedicated testing of the Main or Display Board function/integrity (for LG appliances in the field).

The symptoms you've described clearly indicate a Main Board fault.

There are companies that refurbish Circuit Boards---they may or may not have the capability to test Circuit Board integrity with specialty equipment (other than a voltmeter).

Some may also have the capability to verify/upload---the latest/correct Software Version.
