Maytag SE1000 reversing relay
« on: April 27, 2014, 04:21:57 PM »
Hi all, I joined the forum to get the service manual for my washing machine.
Couldn't find what I needed and decided to ask since I am now a member.

I found this site, http://www.american-appliance.com/old_Site/service_pages/may_washer/maytag_stack.htm that indicates I have a faulty reversing relay.

It has been acting very strange for the last month, stoppin in the middle of a wash but if you pushed a bunch of buttons it would eventually do the load.
Went to start it today and nothing. Decided to bush a bunch of buttons and it will only spin.

Does anyone know or show me where the relay is?
If you do a search on the page I liked to for reversing relay, you will see how I came to that conclusion.
I think this is the part number W10133279.

Thank you, I really appreciate it.

It's behind the front panel on the left side. It's the lower of the two relays.

Thank you for the reply. I took out the circuit board and did not see it.
What do you call the front panel? I will pull the washer out tomorrow.
The cpu board I take is not the front panel because I do not see that part there.
I have done cpu/transistor repairs since 16 yrs old. I know electronics (At 17, won first place in Oregon for TV repair).
I can do this but just need to find it.
Thank you so much.

The front panel of the washer where the tub, transmission and motor are located.

I took the relay apart and it looked good, cleaned the contacts anyway.
The only thing it will do is spin and the trouble shooting guides say that it is the reversing relay.

There is no water turning on irregardless of what temp I select.
There may be a bad overflow sensor or something going on. At this point I don't have a clue.

I think I found it, the overflow has no continuity between 4 and 5.
Thank you for all of your help.

I think a new washing machine is in our future.
When the washer spins the is a loud clacking noise and the dryer just quits working out of the blue.
Thanks for the help.
The other half says that after 30 years it is too old, I'm glad she doesn't think that about me.

If my memory is correct there is a fuse near the pressure switch that controls the power to the water valve. May be the later model but take a look. That machine is a work horse. I would repair if inexpensive.

I am going for http://www.homedepot.com/p/Whirlpool-Duet-4-1-cu-ft-High-Efficiency-Front-Load-Washer-with-Steam-in-White-ENERGY-STAR-WFW86HEBW/204100949?keyword=wfw86heb
And
http://www.homedepot.com/p/Whirlpool-Duet-7-4-cu-ft-Electric-Dryer-with-Steam-in-White-WED86HEBW/204100560?keyword=WED86HEB

Our unit is over 30 years old. To replace it (with the rebate.) is about $100.00 extra than a close exact replacement.
This has steam cleaning and steam drying (whatever that means).
Reviews say cloths are noticeably cleaner.

Similar units to mine get two and three star ratings.

My choice gets 4.5 to 5 star ratings.

I really believe in fixing what you have but what I have is 30 years old. I have many problems including grease stains.
ByBy old washer friend.

This is unreal. my old no longer white t shirts are white again.
