kenmore oven control
« on: April 06, 2014, 01:00:39 PM »
I have restored a very old Kenmore stove, Model #143.6806800, but the thermostat broke and need a replacement part.  I understand the part number is 5164 but is no longer available.  Need help finding a replacement part.  The first attachment is a picture of the back of the control knob where the thermostat is attached. The second attachment is a picture of where the thermostat is located in the stove.

I haven't seen one of those in years.  I believe it was made by United States Stove. Maybe OldStoveGuy can shed some light on this.

I can't see enough by the pictures to determine what type thermostat it is. Sears site doesn't help much either. Is it electric ignition? flame switch? Sears site says it has an electronic control?

This is what I found on the back of the valve:

Harper-Wyman Co.
Hinsdale, IL

This was printed underneath the valve (hope its right because I was viewing it  upside down and backwards) written as I saw it on the valve:

7046
4A    B
9MA  2CAV   042021

The first picture is a close up of the valve.  The top red wire goes to an indicator light.  The bottom red wire goes to a timer.  The other wire on the left goes to the second picture.  Hope this helps

It looks like a Heartland stove, look at a 6700s0011 thermostat picture and see if it is close. I use that thermostat in place of a lot of obsolete controls.Comes with a knob.

Yep just did a Philco electric range made in the 1950's and thermostat was bad. Installed one of these and works fine. Takes a little basic electricity and they work great. Automatic preheat and fit most applications.

I noticed this thermostat has several plugs so will I be able to attach the wire for the indicator light as well?  I removed the t-stat and attached a picture of the back.  There are 4 connectors on the old one:

1. red wire connects to a timer
2. red wire connects to an indicator light
4. black wire going to flame switch
5. white wire goes to back of stove - would need to take back of stove off to trace where this wire goes.  You can probably make a good educated guess.

Am I safe to use similar connectors on this new one?  Will it have wiring diagram of something to indicate what each connector is for?
