What would you have done?
« on: April 06, 2014, 09:22:04 AM »
So I buy this $2 lottery scratch ticket and start scratching it off.
First I scratch off just the part that shows if I have a winner or not and it's a winner!

Before I start scratching off the rest of it to see how much I won my buddy says, I'll give you $5 for it!

What!? I ask...

It's a sure winner, give you $5.00 for it he says.

I actually think about it for a bit, roll my eyes and as I go to scratch it off he says, ok $10.00

What ever I said and then he offers me $20.00

Before I tell you how it ends I would like to hear what you would have done.

Would you have let your buddy have the ticket for $5, $10 or $20.00?

Here is a photo of the actual ticket before the winning amount was revealed.

I would keep it. I'd be pretty mad at myself if it turned out to be a big winner.

After words I thought to myself... what if I could sell every ticket I ever had that said 'Win' for $20.00? Would I be ahead of the game?

So show us the results.

Not so fast. ;)

I don't play the lottery.  You could do a mathematical analysis. I bet if you did, the odds would favor selling the ticket. I used to love math, now it makes my brain hurt.  :)

I would keep the ticket and cash it in to find out what I have won since the offer is not high.

You can tell how much you won before you cash it in by scratching off the rest of the ticket to reveal the amount.

Putting myself in my buddies shoes I asked myself if he had this wining ticket how much would I be wiling to pay him for it, if anything. After all it seems I'm willing to pay the state $1, $2 & $5.00 every now and then for loosing tickets and this one is a "WIN" for sure!

I had a friend who was hooked on those scratch tickets and I used to torture him mercilessly about it. I'd leave a pip on a ticket unscratched until he could no longer stand it. When he'd ask why I'd tell him I'd rather think I might be a winner than to know for sure I'd lost....

That's funny olyteddy, lol...

Any of you ever give scratch tickets as gifts? I have just to family members though. It would make me feel great if one of them won big on a ticket I gave them for a holiday or birthday gift.

I have not given these kinds of tickets as a gift because I am not a regular player. My children gave some to me for X'max.I think it would create some excitements when the receipient scratches them. ;D
