Kitchen Aid washer won't agitate, spin or drain
« on: March 26, 2014, 08:29:03 AM »
My KitchenAid Model #KAWS850LQ1 will not agitate spin or drain.  All I hear is a humming noise,
seems to be coming from motor area at the bottom.  I have checked the lid switch, the water level
switch and the water pump and could find no problem.  Not sure how to check the timer switch,
but it does not move on its own.  Just the humming noise.  Help!!  :-\

i dont know of a way to check the timer but you can order one from either appliance parts pros or repair clinic and they usually take it back no problem if its the wrong part, also check for a firm connection at the motor connection. and che to see if the cuppling is broke.

Check the neutral connection at the motor. On this model, neutral (white wire) connects directly to the motor thermal overload switch and not the motor multi-wire harness connector. This single connection is prone to failure. Other possibilities are faulty connection at motor harness connector as already suggested, faulty capacitor or faulty timer.

Pull pump from motor shaft, should be able rotate by hand. Run unit without pump attached, if still just hums likely a motor.

Have you checked the Motor Start capacitor?

Thanks so much for the replys,  It did turn out to be the motor neutral wire
burnt up to a crisp.  I did check the capacitor and timer but they were fine.
 :thanks:
Can this wire be repaired??

You will have to cut the wire and strip the insulation. Keep doing this until you find good clean shiney wire strands. If wire is now too short, you will have to splice a new piece to make up the length. Install a new quick disconnect terminal, clean the thermal overload terminal and reconnect wire.
