Grinding noise during Agitation MAV6200AWW
« on: March 21, 2014, 08:51:54 AM »
How do I test this unit to determine if it is the trans, bearing or pump?  or something else?  Would hate to think about buying new, certainly don't want newer type washer.

Please advise with any troubleshooting information.

Thanks,

Ed

If you open the lid while it's agitating, do you see the agitator turning back and forth?

I would tilt the machine back to access underneath. Remove the belt and turn the drain pump pulley by hand.  If it makes noise, you've found your problem. If not, move on to the pulley in the center. Turn it by hand clockwise and counter clockwise. It should disengage the brake and spin the basket one way and turn the agitator the other wsy. If you hear the noise you could have a noisey/bad brake. Or worn thrust bearing.

This is one of those things you have to troubleshoot to figure out where the noise is coming from...

Ok here is what I know

If I turn center wheel clockwise, agitator only turns counter clockwise when looking down into tub

If I turn the wheel counter clockwise, basket and agitator turn together in a clockwise direction looking down into tub

No noise during any of this.

There is some noise when drain pump pulley is turned by hand.

So should a conclusion be the drain pump?

it is common for the drain pumps to have bearing issues on that unit, the pump pully should turn smooth, the other thing to look for is the pulley will start to work itself loose and strt to drop down from the pump, when this happens fluted metal is visible just above the pulley.

 :thanks:

Everything is up and running, thanks for the troubleshooting and ideas.  The pump was the problem!  Ordered a new one off of the website that starts with an "A", and $8 overnight fee.  Less than 21.00 and we are back up and going!

Thanks for your help!

 :thanks:
