GDF520PGD0WW ge dishwasher overflow
« on: March 05, 2014, 04:04:57 PM »
Got a call for this new style GE dishwasher. Its overflowing sometime during wash.
I put it in test mode per the tech sheet and it fills to the proper level and stops.
I put it in drain mode and it drains fast.
Customer says last two times it was run it over filled during the middle of the cycle and overflowed. Said water was very high inside washer and flowing out front.
Only thing I can think of would be the water valve sticking open.
Any thoughts?

I put a new water valve in it.  It seemed to be ok, but the customer called me later that evening and said it overflowed again.  I have a flood sensor switch on order.  Hopefully that solves the problem.

GE dishwashers used to be simple & straightforward. Now these new hi-tech hi-efficiency models have ruined their reputation. Every customer I have seen with one so far hates them. I have heard a lot of complaints of poor wash and poor dry with nothing obviously wrong.

Thanks apu. I have not seen it leak, but from what the customer tells me, it is overfilling. When i test it it only fills up to about 3/4" of water. They say when it leaks that it is at least two - three inches, as high as the door when they open it.
Obviously, they could be mistaken...
Either way I appreciate your info sheets. I did not have them!

The flood switch assembly arrived and solved the problem. I imagine it will be good to stock these soon. Part number WD21X10519.
It is the middle piece under the filter. Two quarter inch drive screws hold a cover in place. Then its easy to remove after you take the top screen off.
Hard water and detergent had it stuck. The dishwasher is only 18 months old.
